I just had to post a picture of this little bird created and painted by one of our first grade artists! The workmanship was just exquisite and the painting was really well done too! This one was great, but ALL the birds were really well done. I have been amazed as I have seen the quality of work improve after just one year with regular art classes in our school! Thank you, parents, for your support!
I am an art teacher in a rural school district and I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of the students I teach. When I first started this blog many years ago I had more time to write and over the last few years I haven't posted as much. Public education has been changing and I hope to offer some encouragement and support to others during the coming months. Thanks for checking in.

3rd Grade Southwest Pottery
2nd Grade Geometric Art
The 2nd Grade Artists at East Elementary had a wonderful time creating this unique mural with oil pastels. Each student drew horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines. Then then added circles in three different sizes. They outlined the lines with black crayon and then filled the shapes with different colors and added "pattern" as a special touch.

Shapes and Forms
Our 2nd and 3rd grade special ed. classes created special medallion and bead necklaces by making "forms" from clay. Each student created a texture medallion and then made a symmetrical necklace by creating matching spheres, cubes, triangular prisms, cones, rectangular prisms and cylinders. This has been a "favorite" for everyone who got the chance to create one!
